Hello friends! We're getting close to a resolution that could allow us to operate again. On March 28th, the Economic Development Committee will be meeting to review Home Amenity and Short Term Rental regulation in the City of Des Moines. This impacts AirBnb, VRBO, Sniffspot and Swimply hosts, like The Yacht Club, in addition to many others.
Can you help us by encouraging the Council to approve short term and home amenity rental regulation in our city? Below is a letter you can sign and send to [email protected] asking for their support. I know if they hear from all of us, it can make a difference. Thank you so much!

Dear Mayor and City Council,
I am writing to express my support for the approval of licensing permits for The Yacht Club and Heated Pool, as well as for the broader implementation of licensing for home amenities and short-term rentals within our community.
As a resident deeply invested in the welfare and growth of our neighborhoods, I believe that embracing such initiatives would bring numerous benefits to both residents and visitors alike. The Yacht Club and Heated Pool has become a cherished part of our community, offering unique amenities that enhance our quality of life. Granting The Yacht Club a business license to operate is not only a testament to its contributions but also an opportunity to showcase our support for responsible and forward-thinking endeavors.
I strongly advocate for the introduction of licensing for home amenities and short-term rentals. By implementing licensing requirements, we can ensure that rental properties meet certain standards of safety, cleanliness, and neighborhood integration, thus enhancing the overall well-being of our community. Licensing for home amenities, like those offered by The Yacht Club and Heated Pool, can provide unique experiences that contribute to the attractiveness of our area and stimulate local economic activity.
I urge the council to consider the tangible benefits that licensing can bring to our community and to take decisive action in approving such measures. By doing so, we can strike a balance between fostering tourism, preserving our neighborhood's character, and ensuring the highest standards of quality and responsibility.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I trust that the council will make the right decision in supporting The Yacht Club and Heated Pool's licensing application and in pursuing licensing for home amenities and short-term rentals.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Story telling comes in all forms, my favorite is when it comes from our customers!
Strong winds slapped our region on early Sunday morning, knocking out power to 300,000 people in the Puget Sound. At Tacoma Public Utilities, 19,000 families, businesses, schools and churches went dark impacting thousands more. Every line crew we have came in when the wind was still at its worst, so they could be ready to repair the grid; YOUR grid.
Using your photos, calls and information, we created repair lists better than our computers could provide. Our dispatchers knit together a picture of our system that enabled repairs to happen faster than we could have anticipated. That's what it means to be community powered. When customers become advocates, calling in information for their neighbors and themselves, amazing things can happen.
Thank you for being our customers. Thank you for helping us. We wouldn’t be a public utility without public support.
We’re better together.

Below are some of the photos you shared with our crews during and after the storm. These pictures were instrumental in the restoration process.
Such a showing of generosity in Pierce County; it's incredible to witness. $45k in gifts were collected by employees from employees, to give to those in need this Christmas.
