Last weekend, Transylvania Unveiled had an incredible time exhibiting at the Seattle Travel Show. We were thrilled by the turnout and loved connecting with so many curious, thoughtful travelers interested in discovering Transylvania’s castles, villages, food, and stories.

A special highlight for us was meeting the travel legend, Rick Steves — a true pinch-me moment and a meaningful one for a young travel company built around cultural travel and storytelling.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, asked questions, and shared your travel dreams with us. If you’re feeling the pull toward off-the-beaten-path Europe… Transylvania might be calling.

Authentic. Personal. Local - Join our Spring 2026 Transylvania tour - https://mailchi.mp/454d213ed0f2/authentic-personal-local-spring-2026-transylvania-tour

We’re thrilled to announce that reservations are now open for our Spring 2026 Transylvania Unveiled Tour — a small-group journey through castles, cobblestone towns, and the untamed beauty of the Carpathians.

What does longing taste like when it takes the shape of stone? Peles Castle, perched like a dream fossilized in the Carpathians, feels less built than summoned—an apparition of old-world desire wrapped in the amber hush of autumn. The air here has a texture, a weight, as if memory itself has thickened. Each leaf that drifts through the mountain wind seems to murmur a prayer for impermanence, a soft elegy to passing grandeur. You don’t just see the castle—you feel it breathe against the ribs of the earth, as if time itself had stopped to watch the leaves die beautifully.

Inside, the world grows denser. Walnut walls hold secrets like veins hold blood, and mirrors reflect not faces but centuries. There’s an ache to the opulence, a sadness beneath the chandeliers—beauty aware of its own futility. The stained glass trembles with the last light of the season, and the echo of footsteps becomes a meditation on existence itself. The mind wanders: was this place ever truly meant for kings, or for dreamers who mistook architecture for immortality? The corridors feel alive, whispering that all human splendor is only a rehearsal for decay, and yet—how exquisite that decay can be.

Autumn at Peles is not a season; it’s an emotion translated into architecture, a dialogue between the fleeting and the eternal. You stand before it and understand that we build to defy time, yet it is time that gives meaning to what we build. The castle doesn’t ask you to marvel—it dares you to remember that everything you love will one day turn to dust, and that’s precisely what makes it worth loving. So tell me—when was the last time you let beauty break you open, without asking to be mended?

Did you know King Charles III has been visiting Transylvania for over 25 years? From wildflower meadows to centuries-old Saxon villages, he’s drawn to the region’s natural beauty and traditional way of life — and even owns a property in Zălanpatak!

Washington Post published an article about this today!

Our May 2025 Transylvania Unveiled tour stayed at his guesthouse and explored the village of Viscri, witnessing firsthand the landscapes, restored houses, and authentic traditions that inspire the king.

Walk in the king’s footsteps with us on our May 2026 tour and experience the magic of Transylvania yourself!

Nice piece from BBC about the history of Transylvania and the ongoing efforts to save the medieval fortified churches that are specific to Transylvania.

Romania is full of hidden histories and diverse cultures: https://bbc.in/4eZOUpT
