Oh the sweet sweet sheep. They’ve always had a calm grounding energy to me. Catching their wise, yet curious gaze seems to slow down time, allowing a certain magic in. For centuries sheep have been thought to have a special connection with the spirit world. Their horizontally slit eyes allow them to have great peripheral vision, giving them a panoramic view of their environment - which heightens their response to danger. They are symbols of innocence, sacrifice, and prosperity. They also represent vulnerability which is the perfect symbol for me in this moment.
My entire life I have been an artist, but only recently I’ve felt a huge pull to share my art, and that maybe it could sustain me financially. My art has always been sacred to me, and I rarely sell my art, I only give it to away to my favorite people. I’ve always been scared that creating art for profit would somehow corrupt the process for me, take away my freedom to make art for fun. But I’m trying to change that; I get such a warm fuzzy feeling when I think about making art for a living. Maybe it’s that I have a job that is steady, and a farm that needs tending so I have less time to foster my creativity. Or maybe it’s that art has become so vital in our communities I want to jump on the bandwagon. What ever it is, I’m excited to explore this new perspective. It’s a bit scary and opens up a vulnerability in myself I’ve always kept closed. But here it goes... I’m having my first show in April in Seattle. This gorgeous creature will greet you there, along with many many more... I’m painting them BIG so I couldn’t possibly house them all! Haha.
Stay tuned friends...
