Swipe to see how an awkward turtle became confident dancing on his own.
The biggest mistake I made as a lead is not working on my own dancing when I first started. It's easy to ignore especially if the follow makes you both look good haha. But Bachata isn't only a partnered dance. So here's 3 reasons why you should learn to dance on your own.
1. Inner Confidence - follows feel when you're unsure or when you hesitate. So building confidence in your own steps helps you focus more on leading, and less on what you should be doing with your own body.
2. Musicality - if you don't know how dance to the music on your own, all your moves will fall flat when you lead them because you haven't trained your listening ear.
3. Individuality - You won't need external validation to feel good about your dancing. It's easy to become codependent on your partner to figure out if you're a good dancer. But how you feel comes from within.
Ask yourself, "Would I feel confident dancing Bachata if I didn't have a follow dancing with me?"
If the answer is no, then this team is for you. If the answer is yes, then this team is also for you. Let's bring all the leads together and form an alliance to make 2026 the year we beat follows in a dance battle and then grab a beer afterwards (or water bottle if you're sober) 🤝
