Today’s weather is so cozy and gloomy, you don’t even want to get out of bed. But I had a 7:45 car service appointment, so I did.

On the way home, there was a constant mist of rain on my windshield. Just enough to need to turn on the wipers occasionally, but not enough to leave them on. And I realized that this was the situation I’d been waiting on for years to finally photograph Lake Highlands Park.

I pulled an illegal u-turn to get into the parking lot and nearly ran out of the car without a jacket because I didn’t want to waste any time (and because I had a meeting in 15 minutes) and when I got to this spot, I knew I had found my composition. I’ve known there was something special about this park for me since I first saw it, and I’ve been waiting for the right moment to take a crack at it.

Turns out it was worth getting out of bed after all.

Happy Mother’s Day to the woman who taught me by example to go after what I want, never give up, and put the work in to get it.

Last month I took a day off of work to do a shoot with my mom so she had some pictures of herself done ahead of opening up her art gallery/studio/lab in Fair Park. Y’all this is like the third career she’s had just since I was born. My mom is amazing (and she loves her Diet Coke).
