Rainy day gardening at GPS

10/04/2021

We bid adieu to our dynamite and beloved Marketing and Communications manager, Kiran revitalized the voice through monthly newsletters, our website, and social media. She gave a voice to our volunteers with guest blog posts and IG take-overs, and to our garden through weekly garden videos with and vibrant photos. Kiran was instrumental in sharing the summer camp experience with our community, photographing the discovery and joy, creating a recipe bank of every dish we made —check out our website—, and leading us through two Indian food cooking sessions, resulting in some of the best food any of us have ever tasted. She’s also the biggest champion of a Green Plate Special “Ice Cream Emergency,” and has one of most radiant smiles there ever was! As we shared our experiences of Kiran on her last day, a theme emerged: Joy. Kiran has brought so much joy to the garden, our community, and our hearts.
We are excited for your new adventure, friend, and we will miss you dearly. We couldn’t be more grateful. ❤️🌻

Another successful art activity completed by youth this week.

On Thursday, we each took a bandana, painted with a solution of soy milk and water (1:1), and let it dry for a day. The next day, we dipped our bandanas into a boiling pot of black tea for 10-20 minutes.
..And here are the results!

You must be wondering why we used soy milk. Well, the proteins present in the soy milk bind closely with tea and give out a beautiful shade of brown.

The longer you let your bandana sit in the tea, the darker the shade it would give.

It was our first time experimenting with this art and we look forward to doing it more often with different types of materials.

Thank you for coming up with this activity, Annie. ❤️
