The red door has been a trend of sorts for a while, but where did this bold color on a door come from? Though there is no definitive origin, there are many theories that can give some insight. Some of these theories include roots in old religious practices of painting church doors red to ward off evil and evoke a protective sensibility. Another theory stems from the Far East where the ancient Chinese cultures believe it is a lucky color and invokes positive energy. A third explanation leads us to 19th century England when inn keepers and others would paint their doors this color to indicate to weary travelers and passersby that they were welcomed, to provide a place of rest and hospitality on their journeys.
