Many remember when the West Seattle Parade was run by the West Seattle Hi-Yu. West Seattle Hi-Yu was a 501(c) 4 volunteer organization, originally established by local service clubs to produce a community summer festival. Operations officially ceased in May of 2017. However, aspects of its programming live on, such as the West Seattle Parade (now hosted by the West Seattle Rotary Club!)
Memories of past parades are captured in photographs and oral histories from our collections. These photos from 1968 show a man in a vampire costume. In the first photo, he’s posing in front of a car carrying Miss Vashon Island!
