Check out this article published in Pediatrics this month by Dr. Hagopian and his fellow researchers. The data is from the TEDDY study.
They found that "a family history of type 1 diabetes was a potential predictor for co-occurrence of diabetes and celiac disease as were several SNP genotypes but these did not fully account for co-occurrence. "

Interesting new paper published in the Journal of pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition in July by our sister study, the TEDDY study. They found that cesarian section births did not increase risk for celiac disease. Celiac disease is another autoimmune disorder that has some genetic overlap with type 1 diabetes.
