Happy Father’s Day. That is my father and me, and this so well captures my father.

My dad wanted to canoe a lake with no road to it. No car access, no easy way in.

So he rigged the canoe to trailer behind his bike, and we rode it in.

I was not happy about it that day. You can see it on my face, lol.

But somewhere in that childhood is where I got the thing I run my whole life on now. Everything can be figured out.

There is almost always a way in, even when there is no road.

Ours is a complicated story, so today I am holding both things at once. The good that was real, and what is still hard.

Father’s Day brings up so many kinds of relationships. Some are close, some are lost, some are complicated, some we are still making sense of years later.

Wherever you are with yours, I hope you can be gentle with what comes up.
