Bio:
Someone asked me once why it is that I’m doing what I’m doing with the Yes, Ma! Night Market project. For what purpose, they asked? And with life having been going a million miles an hour these past forever many years with struggle, strife, transition after transition, blessings and lessons, and ooh yes, the growing pains…This not even including the challenges that the pandemic had brought for all of us. I had to really stop & sit for a bit. To do some reflection…
I remember in 2010, starting business for the very first time…opening up a food cart in Portland with my ex-husband. It was definitely not an easy feat w/ most family and friends back home in the Bay Area where we’d left them in 2008. Without community support, we had to figure it all out on our own. It was hard. And it was lonely. But we got through it somehow and were able to open up a handful of establishments here in Seattle.
Remembering the difficulty of starting up on our own, I made it my personal mission to offer up supports wherever & whenever I could to my fellow small biz owners, entrepreneurs, artists, creatives, organizers, activists… my mission to serve my community being that I was, at the time, in the position to do so. Hosting art shows and fundraisers and vendor markets and showcasing the local talent that Seattle has to offer. Within our food establishments. Working alongside my community to offer up helping hands.
And then……..strife strife… and more strife. Better you ask me about it.
All that said, I’m so very grateful to be able to build with my community again. Standing in solidarity w/ y’all. Let’s. Go. Get. This. ISHT. And who better to do it w/ than 2 of the best people I know. My sisters: Joanne Cha of .seattle and Leona Rodriguez of Holding my sisters up on this pedastal. Cuz I got them and I know they got me.
