Tela Clothes

I started Kahel Co. to pursue my interest in sustainable clothing and fashion. All the items are carefully curated by me, displaying different pigments in appreciation of color and texture, and are sourced from thrift stores around Washington. I hope you enjoy the pieces as much as I do!

This small online store, Kahel Co., responds to the current condition of unsustainable consumption of clothes. The fast fashion industry operates in exploiting labor and has detrimental effects on the environment in all aspects of its production, manufacturing, and transportation. It has also generated replaceability and the single-use of clothing materials that are wasteful where items are devalued.

I want to highlight the unique stories told by each clothes passed down by its owners instead of the single-use message by fast-fashion. I also encourage the mending of clothes by sewing or patching clothes that are perfectly fine through Kahel Co.

I recognize that not everyone has the time and money to find sustainable clothes. These sustainable or eco-friendly spaces and communities are often not inclusive of all backgrounds, especially of lower-income. Besides, thrifting has been a means for people of lower-income to purchase affordable clothes. And I acknowledge the privilege of entering this space as not my main-means of finding clothes but as an option. I also would like to add to this discussion that these donated clothes that are dropped off are shipped to developing countries that inevitably destroy the local industry of textile and clothing.
