The 𝐇𝐨𝐭 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐳𝐞 is accelerating the development of affordable, easy-to-install split-system heat pump water heaters for space-constrained buildings.

Led by Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) with support from a national coalition, the Prize focuses on real-world feasibility—advancing turnkey systems with compact indoor storage and quiet outdoor compressors.

These solutions expand where high-efficiency, all-electric water heating can be applied—especially in buildings where traditional HPWH systems don’t fit.

2026 marks 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗲’𝘀 𝟱𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆—a milestone that reflects five decades of research, engineering, policy and design leadership in energy efficiency and decarbonization. From efficient building technologies like heat recovery ventilation, thermal storage, and heat pump water heaters to shaping building codes and designing high-performance buildings across the Pacific Northwest and beyond, we’re proud of the impact we’ve made—and even more excited for what’s ahead.
