This is an instrumental version of a Daoist religious piece of music my friend and I recorded for a virtual performance for the upcoming Spring festival!
The traditional setting of the music is that the melody is sung as a solo with a religious text and mildly accompanied with a bell. My friend and I record the melody as a simple duet. This music has no strict rhythm and is performed freely.
All Daoist temples use, pretty much, the same music. However, the temples perform the melodies with the musical characteristics of the region. This recording is, as far as I know, the only recording existing of the musical variation found in Sichuan.
* the name of this music is unknown to us. And so my friend and I use the first sentence of the text that is sung as the melody. This is, as far as I know, the only existing recording of this music.
