In honor of my 35th bday, I decided to share the flagship story of my (and Giles Hovseth's) short story book on the KCMI FM blog for free. I explain the heart of the story and how it came to be as well. This story is straightforwardly titled "My Dad is Dead". Here it is if you're interested:

September author's challenge! Prompt #1: I am... a writer, a publisher, and an author.

It took me years to answer that question this way. In spite of having my first book published 7 years ago and owning an indie publishing company for 5, if people asked me what I did for a living I'd answer with whatever job was making me money:
"I drive semi-trucks and school busses... a radio anouncer... I work nights at a hotel... a receptionist at a dentist office... etc."
But all of that was meant to simply keep me alive while I worked at finding a way to survive off my writing. Now I actually live off of my freelance writing work, but I still should have been answering this question this way, long before that.
