America 250 / The Last of its Kind: Schenectady's Liberty Flag | Schenectady County Public Library In 1774, the people of Schenectady raised a bold flag of protest. This simple blue banner, emblazoned with the word "Liberty" marked the town's entrance into the struggle between Britain and her American colonies.

We'll also explore the Stockade’s role as a backdrop for the HBO series “The Gilded Age,” and visit some of the filming locations -- letting you in on some backstage secrets. Whether you’re a history buff or a fan of the show, this tour offers a unique glimpse into Schenectady’s gilded past.
