South Georgia is under a Heat Advisory.

When the heat index climbs toward 110°, hydration isn't just important it's essential.

If you have diabetes, high heat can affect your blood sugar, increase your risk of dehydration, and make it harder for your body to regulate temperature.

You must drink water throughout the day even if you don't feel thirsty. Limit time in the direct sun during the hottest hours and take breaks in the air conditioning when possible.

Sometimes you don't even feel dehydration. These are precautions that we must take.

Check on older family members, neighbors, and anyone who may be vulnerable. Alone. Don't forget your pets they need plenty of fresh water and shade too. They need to be moved inside.

A little extra water today can go a long way toward preventing a medical emergency.

Stay safe, stay cool, and stay hydrated. Leo is.

Freedom has evolved over the centuries. What freedom meant 250 years ago is a completely different thing than what it means in 2026.

Because of that evolution and because of technology, we can now choose to educate ourselves about what surrounds us, and make choices that make our lives better.

Our motto is education is our medicine, because everything around us diabetics is evolving so fast. We have to stay educated on this epidemic of a disease called diabetes.

250 years ago, there was no insulin. Now we have different types of insulin that work differently for different people. We have continuous glucose monitors. We have insulin pumps.

This is a different time. It's a time that demands critical thinking from all of us.

We must take care of ourselves and understand how.

It's a different kind of fight now.

And we pray we're close to a cure.

Hydrate this weekend. The heat is dangerous. Hug in love your friends and family today. And remember if you're going to eat a carbohydrate, pair it with a protein.

God Bless America 🇺🇸

That's Talki. ❤️

Long before Leo, there was Talki.

Talki was my first diabetic alert dog. He changed my life, helped me regain my independence, and showed me what an extraordinary service dog could do for someone living with Insulin dependent diabetes.

Today, with temperatures soaring, I wanted to share this reminder using a photo of him.

It is too hot to bring Leo out in the daytime. And gas is too expensive to leave the truck running. So he's staying home. And trust me when I tell you I miss him more than he misses me. He's home with his mom Fotina and his sister Savannah.

Meanwhile, I'm continually expecting him to come up and check on me. It's a transition. For at least a month and a half.

The technology in the diabetes world is mind-blowing. Talki didn't have the luxury of me wearing a continuous glucose monitor and an insulin pump.

So we left the truck on with the air conditioning. Back then.

Please don't leave your dog in a hot vehicle. Even with the windows cracked, temperatures inside a vehicle can become dangerous in just minutes. If you can, leave the air conditioning running or, even better, let them stay home where it's cool and safe.

Our dogs trust us completely. Let's make sure we're worthy of that trust.

❤️ In loving memory of Talki. Your legacy continues every day through Leo and the Talki Foundation.
