This day 30 years ago, Michael Jordan signed a $30 million deal for the 1996–97 season with the Chicago Bulls - the richest one-year contract in NBA and American team sports history. This massive investment was quickly followed by the 🐐's fifth league championship.
About 10 years prior, the 1986-87 Fleer series (only the second basketball set in the card company's history) was gaining attention for its vibrant colors and iconic in-game action shots.
Though the Fleer #57 is not a true rookie card, it is the first of Jordan's career to be produced by a major card company. The shot of Jordan pre-dunk - while wearing the 1980s Bulls jersey sporting the cursive Chicago logo - made it one of the most recognizable basketball cards in history.
