Cortisol is everywhere right now.
It’s being blamed for weight gain, belly fat, poor sleep, fatigue, cravings and an inability to lose weight.
Sound familiar? We did this with insulin.
Take a real hormone with an important role in human physiology, simplify an incredibly complex subject, and turn it into the explanation for almost everything.
Women deserve better than that.
Stress matters. Sleep matters. Appetite matters. Recovery matters. And if any of those are making weight loss harder, they should be addressed.
But telling women that exercise is making them fat because it spikes cortisol, or that they cannot lose weight until they have “fixed” their cortisol, is not helping them.
It’s just another health myth that sounds scientific enough to sell.
