The 579th Engineer Battalion held a ceremony for their Soldiers who have earned the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia-Military Operations in Hostile Conditions (SSI-MOHC). These soldiers deployed to missions and places in the CENTCOM AOR where the SSI-MOHC is authorized by the Department of the Army.
The history of the right shoulder patch dates back to the end of World War II, when the wear of the unit patch on the right shoulder was approved to denote service in combat with that unit. The patch not only signifies serving with a specific unit during hostile conditions, but also symbolizes an eternal connection to the past, visible statement of shared commitment, value, pride and hardship.
