Sweet Fields Farm & Floral

Hi flower friends! It’s been awhile and the world is hard right now but I wanted to pop in and share with you this armload of dahlias! I will be setting out a free bucket of flowers for our neighborhood here in Santa Rosa.
This year has been all about developing techniques, and expanding my dahlia tuber collection. I am finding out which varieties I most like to work with-textures, colors, stem width, etc. I have spent endless hours on flower forums and doing research. It’s been really fun, and I can even successfully take cuttings from tubers now and expand my crops exponentially each year!
Usually I like to have one of my wonderful moms pose for the yearly dahlia armload. This year because of Covid, this photo was taken by my wife while our child distracted as much as humanly possible 😆. So much has changed from just a few months ago.
We are developing our business plan more all the time, and waiting for that time when we choose the perfect plot of land for flowers. Until then, follow along and I’ll teach you as much as I know about growing dahlias! It really does bring a lot of joy. If you haven’t tried it before, maybe start this next spring.
I hope you all are staying safe out there, and are taking good care. Sending out lots of love until we can meet again.

Spring always reminds me of our wedding- I did all the arrangements at and used a mixture of flowers from our own farm and market flowers like peonies we weren’t growing yet. Remember- you can add novel things! There’s no rule against artichokes in bouquets:) ✨ ......photo by 📸

All I can think about lately is roses roses roses. Planting them, cultivating them, arranging them. My grandma, who loved roses, would be proud. My life is full of lists of their names- I remember the smell of this arrangement last summer like it was yesterday.
