Traffic Stop on Bicyclist Leads to Recovery of Loaded Firearm
On June 13, 2026, at approximately 12:38 a.m., a Santa Rosa Police Officer conducted an enforcement stop in the 400 block of Boyd Street on a bicyclist for a vehicle code violation.
The suspect, identified as Andrew Garcia-Silva, a 21-year-old Santa Rosa resident, was observed wearing a cross-body bag. During the contact with Garcia-Silva, the officer noticed the bag was unzipped with the handle of a firearm visibly protruding from the opening.
The officer attempted to detain Garcia-Silva; however, Garcia-Silva fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, Garcia-Silva was safely detained without further incident. The firearm was recovered and determined to be loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun.
Garcia-Silva was not the registered owner of the firearm. The investigation is ongoing to determine how Garcia-Silva obtained the weapon.
Garcia-Silva was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail on the following charges:
25850(a) PC — Carrying a loaded firearm in public
25400(a)(2) PC — Carrying a concealed firearm on his person
148(a)(1) PC — Resisting arrest

🌮🚔The Santa Rosa Police Department hosted a lively Tacos with a Cop event at the community center on Apple Valley Lane last night. We hired local vendor La Esquista to bring out their taco truck and make hundreds of delicious tacos. Chief John Cregan and our police officers were able to connect with our community and have fun relaxed conversations. The Santa Rosa Police Department is committed to fostering trust in our community and ensuring that our community knows that our police officers and civilian staff members are always here to support you in your time of need.
The Santa Rosa Violence Prevention Partnership and our inRESPONSE Mental Health Support Team joined in on the fun and made it great night to highlight the resources of each of these incredible teams. We have some more fun events planned this summer…so stay tuned!
