Dog professionals spend a LOT of time talking about the red flags. The boundary pushers. The clients who swear their dog is “super friendly” while you’re actively being dragged into another dimension by 120 pounds of untrained enthusiasm.

The ones who somehow turn every conversation into a debate, every recommendation into a negotiation, and every policy into a personal challenge.

Every once in a while, you get one of the good ones.
The kind of client that makes you remember why you got into this industry in the first place.

The client who trusts you. The one who hired you because you’re the professional and then actually lets you be the professional.

Wild concept, I know.

The client who doesn’t hear feedback and immediately get defensive.

Instead, they ask questions. They listen. They take notes. They go home and actually do the work.

And holy s**t, what a difference that makes.

One of my favorite clients to this day is someone I told, “Your dog is kind of an asshole.”
I said it honestly. I explained exactly why the dog behaved the way it did, what management looked like, and what we needed to do moving forward.

You know what they did?
Everything.
Every recommendation. Every management strategy. Every piece of advice.

No arguing. No excuses. No “he doesn’t do that at home.”

And because of that, their dog is thriving.

That’s the magic of green flag clients. They understand that feedback isn’t criticism. It’s information.

They understand that structure isn’t punishment. It’s leadership. They understand that the goal isn’t to protect their ego, it’s to help their dog.

Honestly, those are the clients worth their weight in gold.

Not because they’re easy. Not because their dogs are perfect. But because they’re willing to learn, willing to grow, and willing to trust the process.

Those are the people who make this job fun.
Those are the people who make the hard days worth it.

And those are exactly the people I want more of in my business
