ā€œI think any sensible person with a grasp of history would have to admit that D-Day was the most important day of our century. Without D-Day, it's possible that Europe could have remained for another 25 or 50 years in darkness. I'm glad I wasn't there, and yet my admiration for the people who were knows no boundsā€ —Charles M. Schulz

On June 6, we commemorate D-Day, the historic moment that led to the end of World War II. Like many men of his generation, Schulz was drafted into the Army during World War II, and his service remained an integral part of his life.

Schulz was an early supporter of the National D-Day Memorial, providing a leadership donation and serving as the capital campaign chair from 1998 until his passing in 2000, just prior to the Memorial’s opening on June 6, 2001.

Today, the Memorial, for which he did so much to make possible, celebrates its 25th anniversary. To honor and remember Schulz on this milestone occasion, the National D-Day Memorial is hosting the traveling exhibition ā€œThe Life and Art of Charles M. Schulzā€ at the Bower Center for the Arts in Bedford, Virginia, now through August 7.

This Peanuts Sunday comic strip was published on June 5, 1994.
