Meet our Artist of the Month: Manju Chattopadhyay

Manju was born in Cooch Behar, India. From a young age, she practiced Madhubani, a traditional folk art historically created by women on mud walls using natural dyes, fingers, twigs, and nib pens. She moved from Hawaii to Santa Fe in 2017.
Manju’s mosaics begin with color sketches on paper, after which she transfers the outlines onto a board. Some pieces are fused in a kiln using glass stringers, canes, beads, small tiles, or remnants from glassblowing. She then selects individual pieces of glass and carefully glues them into place. The final step is to grout and frame the work. The themes and colors in her art are often inspired by the culture of her homeland.
