Back in Tulum, Mexico today. Reflecting deeply on the fiction of Time. Almost two years to the day when I came here to decompress from the grisly Arise USA Resurrection & Arise Freedom Tours.
My old friend - the greatest exemplar of ‘the living man’ Peter - had died a couple of weeks earlier on my tour. Only the day before, I’d seen him standing in a farmers field behind the tour bus at a meet & greet with locals. I approached from behind and saw that he was looking across the plains. I came nearer and saw that he was crying.
I put my arms around him ~ held him tight and told him that whatever it was, they were worthy tears and I would bear the pain with him. So we cried a little together. Studied the plains a little longer.
The following day we found his body.
It was as though he’d seen the event - and didn’t feel ready. I remember his tears today - and salute his memory.
Steele died shortly after that, followed by my American Indian grandmother Charlene Walking Bull.
Then we lost Kirsten W. I was waiting for her in Malibu - she never arrived. Collapsed at the airport and was despatched in a medical facility. Just like Robert.
She was the last person on my Arise Freedom Tour stage on the final day in Tampa. Standing on the horse carriage-cum-stage, ranting as lightning struck the roof and tore the eardrums out of a thousand folks in that barn. I was soaking, shivering, terrified of the monumental thunder and lightning myself - which was too redolent of dark days in Africa as a child. Where angry Gods and Devils alike made havoc with the weather amidst human frailty.
My three friends were murdered two years ago - on my tour. Our tour. So was General McKay and two members of the audience in the two front rows at the Penn State church.
Scott McKay and I have never stopped long enough to really talk about it. Dissect it. We both just kept pushing forward. We keep pushing forward. I never stopped to say goodbye - til today. Perhaps.
I’m fu***ng tired. As well as deeply sad. But the sun is shining defiantly here in Tulum and my health is amazing. I have the love of many noble souls and in a greater sense I feel indomitable ~ as though an even greater story has only just begun ❤️
