Magdalena Airport (N29)

Magdalena Airport completed two improvement projects enhancing emergency response capabilities, operational efficiency, and community use.

A $745,000 NMDOT Aviation Division-funded project delivered a new concrete helicopter parking area, improved ambulance access road, and grading for future hangar development to support increased medical air transport demand.

Construction was completed in May 2025. The airport also upgraded its utility and maintenance building with expanded storage, office space, and a commercial kitchen, improving functionality for both airport operations and community events.

Together, the projects strengthen safety, access, and long-term development at the rural general aviation facility.

Potential flooding may impact low water crossings on NM 35, from milepost 5 near Mimbres to milepost 23 near Lake Roberts.

Closures may happen with little or no notice during rain events to protect public safety.

Important Details:

Low water crossings could quickly become dangerous.

Due to the Trout Fire burn scar, water flow may increase 100% to 300% above normal in drainages from Shingle Canyon to Pump House Canyon, even in moderate storms.

NMDOT urges drivers to:
✔️ Use extreme caution
✔️ Obey all posted signage and traffic control
✔️ Never drive through flooded roadways

Turn Around, Don’t Drown! Just a few inches of flood waters can stall a vehicle leaving it stranded in a flood zone, and 12 inches of moving water float a vehicle downstream.

Stay alert and safe, New Mexico!

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT), in coordination with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), is advancing the I-25 Nogal Canyon Bridge Replacement Project in Socorro County.

Construction is anticipated to begin early 2027.

The proposed traffic control plan is designed to keep I-25 open in both directions, with one lane available in each direction through phased traffic shifts during construction.

Learn how traffic is proposed to be maintained during construction of the replacement bridges and review the latest project information at: https://www.dot.nm.gov/event/i-25-nogal-canyon-bridges/
