Right now our team is busy checking those seasonal ponds that fill up in the winter 🌧️ and dry down in the summer ☀️. There is a sneaky (and fascinating) mosquito that has evolved to lay their eggs in the mud, Aedes washinoi 🦟
This mosquito is active in early spring. When their eggs get wet from the water of a seasonal pond they hatch and pupate into adults! (Yes, their eggs can withstand drying out all summer!) Insects are incredible 🌲🤯🌧️☀️
