Support Affordable Housing Project at 831 Water Street 12/01/2021

Our community needs more homes. I've spent most of the past year advocating for the proposed apartment complex at 831 Water Street in Santa Cruz. While not perfect, this project has so many good features:

- 140 total new apartments
- Including 69 subsidized affordable homes, including for those who meet the qualifications for "very-low income" housing.
- Unbundled parking and located along a bus route save on parking costs for residents who don’t want or need a car.
- Mixed-use development with rooftop space open to the public.

An apartment is not punishment for a neighborhood and housing isn’t a burden for a city. New housing an opportunity to make our community stronger, more welcoming, more sustainable, and more inclusive.

Come walk with me downtown as I lead a tour of examples "missing middle" housing in our community. Tonight at 7pm from Abbott Square.

What is "missing middle" housing? Missing Middle housing types include diverse housing options, such as duplexes, fourplexes, cottage courts, and multiplexes. These house-scale buildings fit into existing residential neighborhoods, offering improved affordability and supporting walkability, local businesses, and public transportation.

Join us for our next meeting on Thursday, July 8 at 5:30PM…..in person! We will be meeting at Abbott Square in downtown Santa Cruz. It will be a casual meeting, with a (no-host) happy hour and mingling with other YIMBYs. At 7PM, Rafa Sonnenfeld will lead a walking tour of “missing middle” in the downtown area. We look forward to seeing you there!
