😩Does treading water seem impossible? 😓Do you tire out quickly?
⚓️Have a fear of sinking?
Try this technique in ⚠️shallow water⚠️ 👇🏼

❌ Don’t view treading as an endurance activity that requires lots of strength -
✅ first we’re going to be smart and make our lungs become our life jackets. Since air is free only then should you add arms or legs for more support. 🙉Optional: if you need more support —keep your ears under water and look up while completing all other steps.

While in shallow water, you can feel safe to try out a few of these techniques.

👉The goal is to fill your lungs with air and see how that affects your natural buoyancy. Try this before you even try to move your arms or legs!

👉 once you get comfortable with using air for buoyancy, and you are able to keep your face out of the water while lifting your legs up briefly, then you’re ready to do the steps in this video.

👉 don’t forget to practice the breathing techniques from my previously posted videos 👀 they will help you here.

👉if you don’t keep enough air in your lungs your arms and legs have to work harder!

happy treading!

Think you can’t back float? Some people believe they are physically incapable of back floating. I’ve been teaching swimming to adults for over 30 years and this is simply not true.
👀
I’ve never met anyone who can’t float. Did you know floating is based largely on breath controlled buoyancy? 🤯 Let me explain 👇🏼

🙌 Inhale to feel light; Exhale to feel heavy
🙌 Inhale more than exhale to stay steady

🛟 You float when you put air in your lungs
🛟 Always take in more air than you let out
🛟 Lay flat with your ears underwater & relax

🚫Don’t try to float with muscles or force
🚫Don’t exhale from your mouth

✅Let the water and air in your lungs hold you up effortlessly
✅ Inhale through your mouth and exhale gently through your nose
✅Take another inhale before you get heavy to stay steady

…AND smile😁

Give these steps a try and let me know in the comments how it worked for you! Need more help? DM me your specific questions.

***Obviously don’t try this alone in an unsafe place. Bring a buddy and be safe!

Our 4 yr. old student pausing on her back to take a breath before continuing to swim to the wall. Learning to roll to our back to breathe is an essential water safety skill. Once you learn to roll from front to back and then back to front, you can swim a much longer distance without getting tired. And bonus: we’re now primed for learning the side breath!
