A shooting at a business park in the city of Orange that left four people dead - including a 9-year-old boy - was not a random act of violence, police said Thursday.

On September 26, 2020, around 9:59 p.m., a 29-year-old man entered the front lobby of the Harbor Community Police Station in Los Angeles, CA. He was contacted by the desk officer. For unknown reasons the suspect engaged the officer in a physical altercation with both of them going to the ground.
While on the ground the suspect managed to remove the officer’s firearm from his holster. The suspect continued his attack hitting the officer about the head with the gun causing lacerations and bleeding. At one point the suspect stands up and points the gun at the officer as he begins to retreat towards the front door.
The on-duty Assistant Watch Commander responded to the front lobby at which point the officer informed the her that suspect has his firearm. As the suspect was running out the door he turned and fired at the officer. She returned fire and broadcast on the radio an officer was down and an officer involved shooting had just occurred.
The suspect was not struck by gunfire and fled the station in his vehicle.
Responding officers located the suspect’s vehicle and a pursuit was initiated. The suspect eventually pulled over where he was taken into custody.
A loaded 9mm Berretta semi-automatic pistol was recovered from the suspect’s vehicle.
Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the officer to a local hospital where he was medically treated for non-life-threatening injuries and later released.
