Environmental Physics in the Field!🌱🔬
Over Spring Break, students from our Field Studies in Water, Energy, and Ecosystems course spent the week measuring water and energy flows across California’s unique ecosystems.
Guided by Professor Kelly Caylor and Shadman Amin, they applied a variety of instruments and techniques at Sedgwick Reserve and the Dangermond Preserve.
Thank you to everyone who made this week a success—reminding us that some of the best learning happens outside the four walls of a classroom! 🌳⭐️

People living with HIV may face heightened health risks from extreme weather events such as droughts and floods. A new study featured in The Current highlights UC Santa Barbara researchers and collaborating institutions who used decades of climate data alongside information about HIV care networks to identify at-risk populations and help target resources and mitigation efforts.
“There was not a lot of research in this area, and this was a unique opportunity to expand our overall understanding of the health impacts of extreme weather events,” says UCSB geographer Frank Davenport.
