Phase 2 - Shifting weight from the outside of your foot to the ball of your big toe rotates the bones of the ankle so the foot can be rigid. If the bones can’t make this transition, you will be forced to push off of a ‘soft foot’ meaning some tissue, somewhere else up the chain, will be taking that force inefficiency. This may mean a knee ligament takes on extra stretch or a hip stabilizer has to hold on tight to improve force transmission from the bigger muscle groups.

Mastering this weight shift will prepare you for a more efficient gait cycle, which means more energy, less pain, and more function!
