Concern America was founded on the principle that every individual, regardless of their background, deserves safety and security in their homes and communities. On World Refugee Day, we pay tribute to those who are forcibly uprooted from their homes, communities, and countries, undertaking perilous journeys in search of safety for themselves and their families. We also remember Concern’s long history working with refugees and internally displaced communities in places including Honduras (El Savadoran refugees), Mexico (Guatemalan), Thailand (Cambodian), Colombia (internally displaced), and more. Join us in standing in solidarity with refugees and work towards a world of peace where no one is forced to leave their homes or communities. 🌍🕊️

💚 Strengthening Community Care through Mental Health 🌿

Recently in Guatemala, Field Volunteer Dr. Rubelci Cartas, led an intensive mental health course with 40 community health promoter practitioners, creating a space for learning, reflection, and support. Through conversations, psychological first aid training, and shared experiences, participants strengthened their ability to respond to challenges such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and panic attacks within their communities. 🩺🤝

The week also emphasized self-care, empathy, and the importance of listening — reminding us that mental health care is community care. ✨

“Over the course of the week, it was possible to observe each participant’s growing commitment and motivation to improve mental well-being in their communities. Their genuine interest, openness to learning, and willingness to share personal experiences reflected a positive transformation and a deeper awareness of the importance of mental health care.” — Rubelci 😉
