— Can't finish? File Form 4868. It's a free extension that takes about 5 minutes and buys you until October 15.

⚠️ Do you owe money? Pay or estimate tonight, regardless. An extension gives you more time to file — it does not give you more time to pay. Penalties start accruing tomorrow.
💡 Expecting a refund? No penalty for filing late when the IRS owes you. But you have 3 years from the original due date to claim it. After that, it's gone.
