▪ Wildland Urban Interface Fuel Mitigation ▪ Crews continue to make steady, efficient progress on the Brandon Park Fuel Mitigation Project. All w**d-eating has now been successfully completed on the east-facing aspect, with full w**d and brush clearance finalized down to Wasatch Boulevard. Operations have fully transitioned to the west-facing aspect, where crews are completing the remaining w**d-eating (now 90% complete park-wide) while prioritizing the mitigation of oak brush and hazardous ladder fuels. This includes removing low-hanging branches and other vegetation that connects ground fuels to the tree canopy.
Are YOU wildfire ready? Make an evacuation plan for your family to safely evacuate ahead of a fire. According to the International Association of Fire Chiefs‘ website:
▶ Leaving early gives you and your family the best chance of surviving a wildland fire and helps keep the roads clear for firefighters to focus on suppression efforts.
▶ Identify at least two ways out of your neighborhood and a safe place for you to go. Mark your potential evacuation routes clearly on a map and then practice them with your family. Make sure everyone in the family knows your safe meeting place, then let your friends and family know your plans.
▶ Complete your Personal Wildland Fire Action Plan, in the RSG! Program National Action Guide. This includes identifying important contact numbers for places your family might go during an evacuation and an out-of-town contact who can help keep track of your family members in the event of an emergency.
▶ Pack go bags for your family to include water, food, any necessary medications, a change of clothes, spare chargers, and an extra set of credit cards, cash, or checks.
▶ If you have pets, include them in your evacuation preparation. Practice evacuating with them and pack food and medications for your pet(s) in your go bags.
