Over the past 9 days, we have reflected on the life, words, and work of Dr. Dick Barnes. But his legacy is not only in quotes, his seminars, or even in the lab he founded. His true legacy is found in what he discovered about dentistry, and then, what he chose to do with it.

Dr. Barnes discovered that dentistry could be better than the standard of care. He discovered that all dental patients deserved more. That excellence was not accidental, but intentional. And that knowledge, when shared, could change lives far beyond the walls of his dental practice.
So, Dr. Barnes shared that knowledge, taught what he learned, and built what he needed to accomplish his goals. And then he challenged others to see what was possible and create it for themselves.

That is his professional legacy. Not a man, but a mindset. Not a moment in the past, but a movement for the future. And in a very real sense we are that legacy—with every case we take on, and every patient we serve.

The future of dentistry will not be determined by what Dr. Barnes did. It will be determined by what we choose to do next. The question is not how we remember him. The question is how we carry forward what he started.
