The Housing Forecast Report from the Salt Lake Board of Realtors® predicts a recovery in home buying for 2024, driven by declining mortgage interest rates and a surge in active listings. Home sales are expected to see a significant uptick of 16%, totaling approximately 13,000 units, a marked improvement from the previous year's 12-year low of 11,195 homes. The median sales price across all home types is forecasted to rise by 3%, reaching $530,500, compared to $515,000 in 2023. Specifically, the price for a single-family home is anticipated to climb to $600,000, an increase of 2.4%. Meanwhile, townhomes, condominiums, and twin homes are projected to experience a 5% rise in their median sales price, hitting $436,000. By year-end, mortgage rates are expected to stabilize at around 6%.
