Rock Star Elvis, comes to break up this precious moment - where his favorite friend, Woyawasté, is getting a little too close to Sugar for his level of comfort -
🔥 Fire threatened way too close for comfort at our Northern Nevada Rewilding & Land Resilience Project this last week.
An out-of-control "controlled burn" ignited nearby, and for a time the flames were moving toward the area where our rescued free-roaming horses live. Thankfully, firefighters responded quickly and successfully extinguished the fire before it could reach the horses or the protected land they call home.
What makes this moment especially significant is what the landscape reveals. Even after two consecutive years of drought, the positive impact of this rescued herd's presence on the land is undeniable. Green growth continues to persist and survive throughout the project area, demonstrating the powerful relationship between free-roaming horses and healthy ecosystems.
It's also important to note that there are no wild horses living on the adjacent mountain base where the controlled burn took place. If naturally functioning herds were present there, the fuel loads and vegetation patterns could look very different. The fact that a controlled burn was even deemed necessary, highlights the contrast between managed landscapes and those where horses are allowed to fulfill their natural ecological role.
The horses remain safe. The land remains protected. And nature continues to show us what is possible when wild horses are allowed to live as they were meant to—free on the land.

During our 2,200+ mile drive, across California, Nevada, and Wyoming, documenting progress at our 3 LWHF Rewilding & Land Resilience Project sites, we took a detour to stop and visit the Onaqui herd of Utah and they never disappoint!
Blessings on this beautiful herd and may those still left remain wild and free! 🙏🏽🐴

Scenes like this remind us exactly why this work matters.
Witnessing this heartfelt scene of the newest foal born being nuzzled by its mama at our Rewilding & Land Resilience Project on Eastern Shoshone’s, Austin Hill and Bobbi Shongutsie’s sacred land on the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming, filled our hearts with gratitude and hope.
Through our partnership, we have the privilege of watching something truly sacred unfold before our eyes.
To stand on this land and experience it…the sites, the sounds, and the fragrances are difficult to put into words. The land has a powerful heartbeat. The horses belong here. Their return is not an introduction…it is a homecoming.
Wild horses, the indigenous people and these landscapes evolved together, shaping and supporting one another in a natural relationship that benefited the entire ecosystem.
Seeing mares raise their foals on this sacred land is a powerful reminder that nature has always known its way, long before man.
This new foal represents more than a birth. It represents renewal. It represents resilience. It represents the beautiful full circle of wild horses returning to the landscapes where they have always belonged. Every hoof print on this land offers hope for the future.
We are deeply honored to be part of this journey and profoundly grateful to our Eastern Shoshone partners for helping make this vision a reality.
The horses are home. The land is healing. And the circle continues.
