πŸ”πŸΎ Summer BBQ Safety for Pets 🐾🌭

Backyard BBQs are a summer favorite, but many common cookout foods and party items can be risky for pets.

Before you fire up the grill, keep these pet safety tips in mind:

🌽 Skip the table scraps. Fatty meats, bones, corn cobs, onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, chocolate, alcohol, and desserts made with xylitol can all be dangerous for pets.

πŸ”₯ Keep pets away from the grill. Hot grills, skewers, charcoal, grease drippings, and lighter fluid can cause burns, stomach upset, or serious injury.

πŸ—‘οΈ Secure the trash. Leftover bones, food wrappers, foil, skewers, and corn cobs can be tempting but may lead to choking, intestinal blockages, or emergency surgery.

πŸ’§ Provide shade and fresh water. Pets can overheat quickly during outdoor gatherings, especially on hot or humid days.

πŸšͺ Watch doors and gates. With guests coming and going, pets may slip out unnoticed. Make sure collars, ID tags, and microchip information are up to date.

A little planning can help keep your pet safe while the humans enjoy the burgers, sunshine, and summer fun.

If your pet eats something they shouldn’t, gets injured, or shows signs of illness after a BBQ, contact us immediately.

Senior pets don’t handle summer heat the same way they used to. β˜€οΈπŸΎ

As pets age, it becomes harder for their bodies to regulate temperature efficiently β€” especially for those with arthritis, heart disease, respiratory conditions, or extra weight.

That means hot days can feel exhausting much faster, even during normal activities they once loved. 🩺

You may notice:
πŸ’™ Slower walks
πŸ’™ More panting
πŸ’™ Sleeping more during the day
πŸ’™ Less interest in outdoor activity

Sometimes the kindest thing we can do for senior pets is slow down with them.

Shorter walks, cooler hours, extra water, shaded rest spots, and air conditioning can make a big difference in helping older pets stay safe and comfortable through the summer months.

They may not move as quickly anymore β€” but they still love every moment spent with you. 🐢🐱
