Some large enterprises are saving more than $5 million a year on ITSM licensing. Their AI agents closed the tickets directly, before a person ever touched them.
Per-seat and per-ticket pricing both assume a human sits in the middle of the transaction. Remove the human from that loop and the meter has nothing left to count. Automation Anywhere's data across 70+ deployments backs this up: AI agents resolving up to 80% of requests on their own, catching issues before they escalate to a ticket at twice the previous rate, and cutting ITSM licensing costs by as much as 53%.
Gartner's numbers point the same direction: 40% of enterprise applications are expected to carry task-specific AI agents by the end of this year, up from under 5% last year.
Most ITSM contracts up for renewal this year still price the old way: seats sized to headcount, tickets sized to call volume. Before signing the next one, check whether the pricing still matches the work an agent already does instead of a person.
