The Neuronal Gene Arc Encodes a Repurposed Retrotransposon Gag Protein that Mediates Intercellular RNA Transfer The neuronal protein Arc is evolutionarily related to retrotransposon Gag proteins and forms virus-like capsid structures that can transfer mRNA between cells in the nervous system.
