IPPS Mentoring Program, Inc
Please contact the Governor and ask him to sign SB 340, the Voting Rights for Ex-Felons bill.
In Maryland , African Americans make up 30% of the population but 65% of those denied the right to vote due to a felony conviction. This is due, to a significant degree, to the much greater incarceration of African Americans for crimes for which whites seldom go to prison.
Please call Governor Hogan at (410) 974-3901. Tell the person answering that you want the Governor to sign SB 340.
It takes about 2 minutes to respond, but will make a HUGE difference in voting rights. The governor will decide this by May 21st.
IPPS has submitted a new grant application with the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore. This new grant would fund the continuing program at the Wicomico County Detention Center, as well as the new program at the Poplar Hill Pre-Release Center, in Quantico.
We are hopeful that the grant will be awarded and we can continue with plans to implement the next phase of our expansion into other facilities, providing assistance and guidance for additional inmates.
