Environmental Studies Program at Roanoke College

Habitats at the Environment Center
Helena Bart, Kara Hopkins, Iliana Martinez, Mac McElfresh, and Alex Skibinski joined forces with Dr. Laura Hartman and hosted a group of children from the Salem Montessori School on Tuesday. They explored what makes a habitat a home for the plants and animals living at the Environment Center through storytelling, exploring nature, and art. A Big Thank You to the students who showed off their science communication skills. We are grateful to Sierra Bradley (from Salem Montessori) who worked with us developing the program and giving our students this great opportunity.

So proud of our class of 2026 graduates! Your next chapter will no doubt be interesting -- whether you're going on to graduate school, doing water testing for the landfill (true story!), tracking down rabid animals (another true story!), working at a tiger sanctuary (ditto!) or just waiting to see what comes next - we know you will continue to make us proud. Special congratulations to members of Oikos, our new Environmental Studies Honor Society (check out the Chestnut leaf with maroon ribbon on many students' lapels!).
