I had an eye-opening ride along with the Sherwood Police Department on Friday night.

Here are my biggest takeaways:

➡️Although it was a quiet night, one incident involving a person struggling with mental illness stood out. This issue has become all too common for our officers, especially with Measure 110 and the legalization of drugs. We need to empower our officers to address this growing problem.

➡️Hiring officers has also become a challenge due to some elected officials and the media vilifying them. In the past, if there was an opening, they would receive as many as 1000 applicants. Now, they are lucky to get 10.

We are fortunate to have the dedicated men and women on our police force here in Sherwood. They are people like you and me, trying to do the right thing while serving our community and keeping us safe. Next time you see a Sherwood Police Officer, make sure to thank them for their service!
