Steel Bridge Coffee

April 18, 2009: the grand opening of the Union Street Bridge to pedestrian and bike traffic. The opening of this bridge remains by far the most exciting and consequential development for me since I've lived in Salem. I snapped this picture at the opening ceremony. Also pictured is my inaugural ride with my roommates (possibly prior to April 18).

When I read this week about Salem's oldest known tree (an Oregon White Oak) slated for removal, I realized that it's right on one of my coffee delivery routes. I took a moment to admire it while I still have the chance. It's estimated to be from the 1600s.

There was a gorgeous rainbow over the river as biked home after my last coffee deliveries of the week. LOL, hope you enjoy this view of the picturesque Marion Street bridge with the steel bridge in the background. We will be closed for the week of Christmas. I hope that everyone has plenty of good coffee stocked up to enjoy the holiday!
