Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month is an opportunity for men to become more attuned with their emotions and expressing how they feel.
What are the signs that men are struggling and might need help?
Increased aggression, mood swings and more irritable
Becoming more withdrawn from family and friends
Overworking, or getting overly distracted
Seeing an increase in alcohol and drug use
Signs of physical fatigue or headaches
Here are some ways to help:
Have them reach out to a doctor or mental health professional to talk about their symptoms
Have them explore treatment options; therapy, medication, or lifestyle change
Break the stigma
Additionally, the best way to start is creating spaces and opportunities where men can openly express their emotions and feelings. Let’s work together to get to a point where no one is afraid to ask for help when they need it the most.
If you’ve been struggling, you do not have to navigate it alone. If you need support, encouragement, or someone to listen, call the Oregon Family Support Network Parent Warmline at 1-833-732-2467. Our Family Support Specialists are here to walk alongside you.
