Old Man Running
From Ordinary Runners, Volume II. July 10, 2019.
Today is Renee Hearn day.
"My Running Hobby!"
Like so many of our running friends, Renee remembers starting her running journey in high school. Her first race was in January 1990, a 5k on Jekyll Island. Then like so many of our running friends, after high school came college, marriage, a job and a family. And suddenly it was 2018.
Renee started running again and accomplished several of her running goals, including 5k's 10k's and a half-marathon.
Renee says, "I am still teaching and coaching, but I make time for myself!"
That's why so many of us run.
Thanks Renee.
BTW: I was in Mr. Taylor's van when we made that long trip from Millen to Jekyll Island for that 5k and 15k. February 24, 1990.
Get up and at'em and go for a run/walk today. You'll be glad you did............and so will I.
I'll see ya on the roads,
From Ordinary Runners, Volume II. July 2019.
Today is a first. I'm going to honor two stories. Today is Dee Dee Miller-Goodwin (my daughter) and Matt Goodwin (my son-in-law) day. They wrote about the same race. Run for the Angels, Pompano Beach, Fl.
"Forty Years Later!" Dee Dee Goodwin-Miller!"
Dee Dee remembers running the Augusta College Jaguar Jaunt when she was nine years old. Not a fun time for that little girl.
Forty years later she and I entered the Run for the Angels. The race was at the Pompano airport. It was hot and there are no trees at the airport and the entire race is on the black airport runway. It was hot, hot, hot!!!!!
Dee Dee didn't have a great race, but she ended with this thought.
"Next time I will be more aware of temperatures and what I think my body can handle. Next time won't take another 40 years!"
Thanks Dee Dee for staying with daddy!!!
"5K, Run for the Angels!"
Matt Goodwin
Matt entered the same race as Dee Dee and I. Matt and Dee Dee flew into Fort Lauderdale, from Seattle, for our cruise to Cuba. They arrived at the hotel at 1 a.m., and the race started at 7:30 a.m.
Matt remembers, "Because of confidentiality, I can't release my time for the 5k. But I will say that I finished in the top 331 in the race!"
Thanks Matt!
BTW: When Matt finished, he got one of the loudest cheers I've ever heard at a race finish line!!!
Take a few minutes today and go for a run/walk. You'll be glad you did.....and so will I.
