Quick update on the Leopard 48 project.

The first couple of videos you’ve seen were actually filmed about five weeks ago when my wife and I flew up to Charleston to look at the boat for the first time and decide whether or not we wanted to take on this project.

Well… we did it.

We’ve officially closed on the boat, and I’m sitting outside her right now getting ready to start what will probably be a very long cleanup and restoration process.

My wife and kids are on their way over, and today is really about taking inventory, cleaning out years of neglect, and starting to figure out exactly what we’re dealing with.

One thing I plan to do throughout this project is document the actual costs associated with bringing a boat like this back to life. I think a lot of people are curious what these projects really cost, and honestly, there aren’t many people who openly share the numbers.

We’ll track the repairs, upgrades, unexpected surprises, and hopefully show what it really takes to take a neglected cruising catamaran and turn her back into a capable cruising boat.

We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us.

There are a lot of complex moving parts to a project like this, the metal fabrication, cutting the deck boards to fit, matching the deck board color to the existing wood on board, rigging it so that it’s functional and able to deploy in the event of falling overboard, and of course, making it look good!
