Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out to ask for help for one of our brothers from Local 68, Leopoldo Martinez.

On March 25th, 2026, Leopoldo was at home enjoying a beautiful day, grilling some food on the deck. He stepped inside to grab some vegetables, and when he came back out, the whole deck was already in flames.

Leopoldo made it outside with his service dog, but when he realized his wife wasn’t with him, he ran back inside to save her. He shielded her with his body as they escaped the fire. Sadly, his loyal service dog ran back inside after him and didn’t make it out.
Leopoldo suffered 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree burns on his arm and head. Their home was completely destroyed, and they lost everything they owned. With no family here in the Twin Cities, Leopoldo and his wife need our help as they start to rebuild their lives.

Estoy pidiendo ayuda para uno de nuestros hermanos del Local 68, Leopoldo Martínez.
El 25 de marzo de 2026, Leopoldo estaba en casa disfrutando de un hermoso día, asando comida en su terraza. Entró por un momento para buscar unas verduras, y cuando regresó, toda la terraza ya estaba envuelta en llamas.
Leopoldo logró salir con su perro de servicio, pero al darse cuenta de que su esposa no había salido con él, corrió de nuevo hacia adentro para rescatarla. La protegió con su cuerpo mientras escapaban del fuego. Lamentablemente, su fiel perro de servicio corrió nuevamente hacia la casa y no logró salir.
Leopoldo sufrió quemaduras de primer, segundo y tercer grado en su brazo y cabeza. Su casa fue completamente destruida, perdiendo todo lo que tenían. Sin familia aquí en las Ciudades Gemelas, Leopoldo y su esposa necesitan de nuestra ayuda para comenzar de nuevo.
Cualquier ayuda cuenta— cada donación, cada compartida y cada palabra de apoyo significan muchísimo. Gracias a todos por demostrar el verdadero espíritu de hermandad sindical.

Spouses are encouraged to attend. Food and drink will be provided.
